Born in 1960 in Freiburg, studied law in Munich, Heidelberg and Mainz.
Career
Prior to studying, Gabriele Sons completed an internship at a publishing company, and while at university she also worked for several years as a newspaper and radio journalist. Following her studies, she started her professional career in 1991 at Deutsche Lufthansa AG as an advisor on collective bargaining policy and labor law, subsequently as head of Human Resources and Legal Affairs in different Lufthansa subsidiaries.
In 1996 Gabriele Sons moved to Wella AG as head of HR Germany. In 1999 she was appointed to the Management Boards of Compass Group Deutschland GmbH and Eurest Deutschland GmbH, where she was responsible for Human Resources and Legal Affairs.
In 2003 Gabriele Sons joined the Management Board of Schindler Deutschland Holding GmbH and from 2006 took on additional duties for Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
In 2008 Gabriele Sons was appointed to the Management Board of thyssenkrupp Industrial Services Holding GmbH and TK Industrieservice GmbH as Chief Human Resources Officer.
In 2010 she was appointed Chief Executive of the Metal Industry Employers’ Association (Arbeitgeberverband Gesamtmetall).
In October 2012 Gabriele Sons joined the Executive Board of thyssenkrupp Elevator AG and in January 2013 was appointed Chief Human Resources Officer of thyssenkrupp Elevator AG.
